From Friday 9th May until Sunday 18th May, chef and food writer Ravinder Bhogal and Nadeem Lalani Nanjuwany, co-founders of Jikoni, will join forces with Fortnum & Mason to bring their warm, joyful hospitality and unique expression of maternal, cross-border cooking to the Piccadilly Flagship.
This special collaboration will feature an exciting lineup of events and experiences, including Jikoni’s beloved Scotch eggs; a launch party with a DJ set from multi-award-winning producer, composer and musician Nitin Sawhney; a Jikoni Civilised Sunday with Meera Syal & Sanjeev Baskar; a High Chai afternoon tea and a cocktail masterclass with a limited-edition Fortnum’s x Jikoni Gin distilled onsite and available in a special cocktail.
In a remarkable move, Ravinder has been invited to co-design one of Fortnum’s iconic window displays together with Nitin Sawhney and Fortnum & Mason that brings the stories of immigration and cross-cultural journeys to the forefront in the prime Fortnum’s Piccadilly corner window.
Ravinder & Nadeem say “At Jikoni we cook without borders and represent pluralism through our food. In a divided world, it has always been our gentle activism to bring people together through maternal cooking and inclusive hospitality. Fortnum & Mason have always had an energetic enthusiasm and engagement with the breadth of Britain's cultural diversity and food scene, and our collaboration feels like a dose of optimism - a meeting of minds and kindred spirits.”
Tom Athron, Fortnum’s CEO, says, “We are so proud to be partnering with Ravinder, Nadeem and the brilliant team at Jikoni. Their personal, cross-cultural approach to food and hospitality resonates with Fortnum’s long-standing belief in the joy of food to bring people together. This collaboration is a celebration of creativity, community and culture—and a joyful expression of the rich diversity that defines modern Britain.”
Friday 9th May, Ticket £100pp
To launch Jikoni’s residency at Fortnum & Mason in style, internationally renowned producer, musician, songwriter, and DJ Nitin Sawhney, celebrated for his genre-blending fusion of global sounds, will deliver an exclusive set alongside a stellar lineup of friends. Throughout the evening guests will be treated to an array of indulgent bites from the Jikoni menu, offering a delicious glimpse into the restaurant’s signature no-borders cooking, alongside bespoke cocktails made with limited-edition Fortnum & Mason x Jikoni Gin.
JIKONI SCOTCH EGG BAR at the Fortnum & Mason Wine Bar and Food Hall
From Friday 9th May, for 4 extended weeks until 6th June.
Running for a limited six-week period the Fortnum & Mason deli and wine bar in the lower ground Fortnum’s Food Hall will play host to a joyful celebration of Jikoni’s beloved Scotch eggs. The menu features the signature Prawn Toast Scotch Egg served with banana ketchup and pickled cucumber which so perfectly captures our playful cross-cultural spirit; it will be joined by residency specials including a Clove-Smoked Venison Scotch Egg with carrot achaar and beetroot chutney, and a Spiced Summer Pea Scotch Egg with saffron aioli and pickled chillies. Ravinder’s reimagining of the classic adds a playful thread of storytelling to the takeover: whilst Fortnum & Mason lays claim to inventing the Scotch egg, Ravinder and Nadeem trace its roots to the Mughlai Nargisi kofta, influenced in turn by Turkish and Persian cuisine, another example of food’s ability to transcend culture and borders.
Saturday 17th May, £80pp
Jikoni will bring its expansive “no borders” take to the classic afternoon tea with a vibrant High Chai experience. A cherished and integral part of life at Fortnum & Mason, this reimagined afternoon tea will be filled with creative interpretations of the familiar. Highlights include Strawberry falooda cake; crispy Chickpea panisse with Bengali tomato chutney; Gin and beetroot cured salmon with tahini and soft herbs on rye; Bombay potato and Montgomery cheddar stuffed buns served with a menu of single estate teas from Jikoni’s library, our signature Kenya Chai and Fortnum & Mason’s extensive tea list.
